Creating a placemark I can't set desirable color for it. No matter what I choose in color palette, it remains the same it was before.
Issue #1. Color change doesn't work at all where an icon was picked from embedded library.
It works only for big dot if no icon assigned.

I edited user_settings.conf to make all icons black
Color changed in major cases, besided partitions SHOPPING and SPORT. For them color changed only for their 1st icons - big dots.
Issue #2. Options landmarks.symbols.color.sport and landmarks.symbols.color.shopping don't work, whereas others do.

Also, I can observe a folder 'Icons' in program folder. After my placemark exporting/importing I found a new icon and a new partition "IMPORT" in Icons menu. So I am sure that the app operates with custom icons. But I failed to find how.
Question #3. How to assign custom icons for placemark?

Customs Icons solved. Should be PNG in subfolders.

Actually (and unfortunately), both colors and icons are distinct and do not work together.
You can either select a color for your points, or an icon. But the icons always keep their category color.

For custom icons, you can use various formats including vector icons (SVG).

Edit: also, and as you've noticed, it's not currently possible to change the default color of categories "shopping", "sport" and "geocaching". I've corrected the user setting help page because I don't know when this will be possible. Sorry about that.

Issue #2 is fixed in AQ 2.2.3
