[done] Radius ruler

Post by alexlong »

Hi and thanks for AlpineQuest.
People from 4pda Russian forum offered an idea to add a scale display as concentric circles (radius ruler). I think it's a very useful idea to show scale from the screen center icon.
It may be done as a feature in settings with the ability to change circle colour, width, opacity etc. to make it visible on every map of every colour. User can switch it on/off to display or undisplay on the map in options.

Hi again.
If this can be done I would like to add another check-box in Options and add another item in Settings. Width is for line width and font (figures) width.

Hi Alex and sorry for the delay.

Yes it would be great to have this feature.

I don't know when I'll find time to work on it but I'll do it.

Best regards

It would be good to add a compass view as in the picture

Hi Alex,
Maybe your first idea/wish is moving slowly to the compass tool, and the ruler just become a part of an other sort of compass on map ! ;)

I think radius ruler may be done as an option with or without compass pointers. It was just another idea from 4pda Russian forum.

Yes Alex, i think also that it's a good idea, but maybe difficult to implement for map with inclination ...

I think this idea is still worth discussing. Radius ruler will be very helpful.
but maybe difficult to implement for map with inclination ...
Yes, you are right but I think the way out is to add in Options a Radius ruler check-box (see above) with a comment "Deactivate Perspective map view in SettingsЭ.
It may be just Radius ruler without any compass.
As to Radius rular with compass view I think it should be put to Compass options in this case – Radius ruler with Compas view.
Of course it will not work in Explorer mode and it's normal.

I've just added a new beta (2.2.2 beta) version with a first version of a radius ruler.
Few things may still change.
